Autumn

Autumn : quietude and seduction

September / October: The first sun flowers offer their generous solar discs to the ambient sweetness; flower beds become the kingdom of so many dahlias, cactus with long and narrow flowers whose flashing is dimmed by clouds of Asters. All sorts of "Rudbeckias and Helianthus’’ are present while "Cosmoses’’ spread their rose and white tones.
In prevision of the caprices of the weather, Asters, Sunflowers and Dahlias have been supported with stakes in June in order to resist to sudden rains. Red and orange colours dominate in the large lane particularly with Dahlia ‘Jet’, purple Asters and sheets of Nasturtium. In the clumps, Asters play with their colour as with a palette, blue for "A. novae-angliae’’, white for "A. laevis’’ on a background composed of blue-crimson flowers of "Solanum rantonnetii’’, Mauves and indigo Salvia. At the bottom of the garden, Burning bushes (Pyracantha), planted along the entrance gate, are scattered with yellow and orange berries, such as "Lumignons’’. The season goes ahead, days shorten, light reduces, joined to the flaming of the foliage, whose the one of the Virginian creeper which sets the house aglow. The show is particularly remarkable in the water garden where trees and shrubs play on the different shades of gold. The "Copalmes d’Amérique’’ (Liquidambar styraciflua) being the greatest leaders.
